Pure brilliance.

This is the book that introduced me to hard magic systems. Just finished reading it for the second time, and still love it to death. Great characters, the most satisfying fight scenes I’ve ever read utilizing such a simple yet complex power system. Just pure brilliance.

My favourite novel

This trilogy was my introduction to Sanderson. I first read these three in 2017. I was glued, finished the trilogy in its entirety in a week. I’ve read the following trilogy as well as other Sanderson books and while those are good this is his best. I’ve come back to it and read it three times since 2017. I’m about to start reading it again cause I love it so much. Why do I love it? The characters have so much nuance. At times you think to yourself “the good guys are doing ‘good’ things but with bad motives” and “the bad guy is honestly just trying his best.” There’s also rich descriptions without being distracting from the storyline, the perfect in between that makes you able to imagine exactly what the author is while still being totally engrossed in the story. Sanderson’s use of religion is fascinating. Before thinking that’s a red flag (atheists, non-theists), it doesn’t advocate any existing religions. He makes up some religions and weaves them into the story in very interesting ways. His character building is on point. I’m not typically one to get emotionally attached to fictional characters, but I cried when bad things happened to Vin and was genuinely excited for her when certain things happened (not gonna spoil anything).

Great ending, not always a great journey

—-Minor Spoilers —- I found it hard to warm up to the characters in this book, especially Vin. I ended up liking her more towards the end of Book 3, but I did not find her very believable (e.g. how quickly she changes from feelings of worthlessness and trusting nobody to the exact opposite.) The books also offer very little of a buildup between her and Elend (who also undergoes very rapid and abrupt changes). The many characters (too many, or maybe not fletched out enough) often felt flat, and other than Sazed and maybe “OreSeur” I didn’t really feel I connected with any of them. The whole system of Allomancy felt gimmicky to me at times. Simply put and for lack of better words, I didn’t think it as “cool” as the book maybe wants to convey. It didn’t bother me either and it worked well tied into the bigger picture, but I didn’t buy the one dimensional bad a**ery Vin was supposed to portray. However, I thought the Inquisitors, Terrismen, the Lord Ruler, Feruchemists, among other things, helped create a very interesting world and the third book finished with a completely unexpected and “awesome” ending. I did not see it coming, I never read a series and was so moved by an ending. I think the ending makes the difference between 3 and 4 stars in this case. Unlike Stormlight, I don’t get the praise. Mistborn is still a good read I’d recommend to Fantasy fans, even though I’m personally not planning on reading the newer entries at this point.

How could someone give this one star?

I don’t see how someone could give this one star. Either they didn’t read it, or are making a bad joke, because from the characters, to the plot, to the interesting magic system, these books are some of the best I’ve ever read, and I read them for hours at a time, because I just couldn’t stop! For anyone who even remotely likes fantasy genre, READ THESE BOOKS!!! 5.5/5 stars

Mistborn trilogy

The book was a little on the slow side. It was an interesting concept as far as the characters and the situations they were in but there just was no spark that kept my interest. It was a book I could easily put down. I cannot explain why. I would be hesitant to recommend this to anyone else.

Best Book I've "READ" in .... A Very Long Time

i am an Audio book guy. at work, on the go, you know, However, i decided to try my hand at reading for once. i am an immensely Huge fan of " the Wheel of Time " series, and am intensely impatient for the conclusion. after listening to Gathering Storm, i decided to check out Brandon's other work. The Mistborn Trilogy Cover Caught my eye, plus the idea that i could keep reading without interruption because it was the complete set. from the Very first paragraph, my wife could attest, i could not put the phone down. luckily i am the boss, so at work i would sneak a read, every chance i could find. i also admit i actually ignored my wife for the month it took me to finish the complete trilogy. Yes, a month, for me that is by far the fastest read EVER, for a novel, and i read three in that month. Excellent character development, great attention to detail, emotion, action, drama, Everything was great. I haven't become so completely part of another world since, well, i put down Wheel of time. i am thoroughly excited to read more of Brandon's work and, of course, someday finish the epic tale of Time, But aren't we all.

Severian126

Wow!

Just finished reading the trilogy. These has got to be one of the greatest books I've ever read. Amazing, engrossing and a unique take on the fantasy genre. I am saddened to see it end, but it wraps up nicely and leaves an impression in you that will always remain.

Paul Fryer

Great Fantasy Read

Gripping

Purchasing all the entire Mistborn Trilogy in one purchase may appear daunting but you'll find yourself flipping through huge chunks of pages in no time at all. Once again Brian Sanderson delivers with an epic science fiction work that mixes excellent character development along with just the right amount of fantasy. Keep an eye out for this author who will soon have the attention of more than just fantasy readers.

Honalee01

Mistborn Trilogy

Awesome. This had everything you could ask for in an epic. Magic, life's struggles, hopes, dreams, love, laughter and tears. It was long but never felt long. Now that I have finished it I am kind of sad but I absolutely LOVED every moment and especially the ending.

160th

Must read!

This book is awesome! The depth of the characters and the complexity of the plot is amazing! My new favorite series. I love that it is si-fi with believable explanations, he author does an incredible job creating a world you and believe. And any questions that come up in your reading are answered as you read. I could go on forever. So I'll just finish saying this book is GREAT!

Punahou74

Great Books

I was looking for a good sci-fi/fantasy series after the Eragon series by Paolini, and this looked good. I wasn't disappointed! The characters are complex and intriguing, and continue to develop through the whole series. I downloaded the whole Mistborn series on my iPad and read every night. I flew through the chapters, only stopping when my eyelids were closing. I absolutely LOVED this series! I had not heard of Brandon Saunderson before, but now plan on reading the rest of his books. My favorite new author, who I will tell all my "reading" friends about. Get this series now and enjoy a fantastic series in a scientific, fantasy-filled world! Get it now!

Mistborn trilogy

Incredible!! Unbelievable!! A must read for anyone who loves fantasy. Deep, encompassing and nail-biting-keep-you-on-the-edge-of-your-seat-can't-sleep-till-I'm-done thrilling. It's been a long time since I enjoyed a book as much as I enjoyed this one. Thank you very much, Mr. Sanderson!! It's good to know there are still authors out there who are as original and as imaginative as Tolkin. I tip my hat.

Dr Rediculous

Mistborn Trilogy

I read the entire series straight through. The story was engaging as they were and thought provoking. I'd recommend this book for anyone who likes to "read outside the box".

Best Fantasy Trilogy

This was an amazing ride. I was sad for it to end. The forethought and planning was extensive. So much wrk had to be done before a page was written. Creating a new magic set, fantastic. Creating a world in planned chaos, brilliant. Buy it, read it, and make coffee as you will barely sleep for a week.

The Hills

Read it

Having read Sanderson's work on the Wheel of Time, we gave this a shot. He did not disappoint. Good world building, and a well planned story with characters you can actually care about.

Pyrrish

Wonderful!

This book is a fantastic read! I was not able to put it down. The characters are beautifully written, and the magic feels extremely real. I didn't want book 3 to be the end!

A true gem

I started out with Brandon Sanderson's "Alcatraz vs." series and thought that he was an excellent writer. So I wanted to read other books of his. I read the plot and I was hooked. This is the reason why I love fantasy. Mysterious powers, an overpowering empire all add to the fantasy aspect. But he adds many new twists. "What if the hero dies?" is one of them. Overall the best story I've EVER read.

imraps

A pager turner

If you get this book, be prepared for it to monopolize your free time. I could not put the book down; incredible complex characters, rich imagery, multiple plots, and an eclectic cultural background borrowing from a variety of religious themes and from old European histories. And yet, all is described within a magical mythology with a pseudoscientific touch. LR

Dan DH

Beautifully executed.

I absolutely love this trilogy by Brandon Sanderson, and it is the reason he was chosen to finish Robert Jordan's work. The world is new, the magic fascinating and tasteful, and the characters are wonderfully flawed. While the Well of Ascension probably merits four stars at best, it does an impeccable job of setting up for The Hero of Ages and its stunning end. Bravo to Brandon Sanderson, and sci-fi lovers will become hungry for more after they're done.

McWoot

Fantastic

Rekindled my love of fantasy novels. The story and the characters are so well written you can't help but feel apart of it. Have not read anything close to this good since Tolkein.

i am an Audio book guy. at work, on the go, you know, However, i decided to try my hand at reading for once. i am an immensely Huge fan of " the Wheel of Time " series, and am intensely impatient for the conclusion. after listening to Gathering Storm, i decided to check out Brandon's other work.

Awesome. This had everything you could ask for in an epic. Magic, life's struggles, hopes, dreams, love, laughter and tears. It was long but never felt long. Now that I have finished it I am kind of sad but I absolutely LOVED every moment and especially the ending.

Get it now!

And yet, all is described within a magical mythology with a pseudoscientific touch. LR

Pure brilliance.

This is the book that introduced me to hard magic systems. Just finished reading it for the second time, and still love it to death. Great characters, the most satisfying fight scenes I’ve ever read utilizing such a simple yet complex power system. Just pure brilliance.

zedkolk

Markus1023

5.5/5 stars

5.5/5 stars

Severian126

Wow!

Get it now!

It's been a long time since I enjoyed a book as much as I enjoyed this one. Thank you very much, Mr. Sanderson!! It's good to know there are still authors out there who are as original and as imaginative as Tolkin. I tip my hat.

Having read Sanderson's work on the Wheel of Time, we gave this a shot. He did not disappoint. Good world building, and a well planned story with characters you can actually care about.

Fantastic

Rekindled my love of fantasy novels. The story and the characters are so well written you can't help but feel apart of it. Have not read anything close to this good since Tolkein.

Get it now!

This was an amazing ride. I was sad for it to end. The forethought and planning was extensive. So much wrk had to be done before a page was written. Creating a new magic set, fantastic.

LR

Pure brilliance.

This is the book that introduced me to hard magic systems. Just finished reading it for the second time, and still love it to death. Great characters, the most satisfying fight scenes I’ve ever read utilizing such a simple yet complex power system. Just pure brilliance.

zedkolk

Markus1023

Mistborn is still a good read I’d recommend to Fantasy fans, even though I’m personally not planning on reading the newer entries at this point.

fantasy_reader

How could someone give this one star?

I don’t see how someone could give this one star. Either they didn’t read it, or are making a bad joke, because from the characters, to the plot, to the interesting magic system, these books are some of the best I’ve ever read, and I read them for hours at a time, because I just couldn’t stop! For anyone who even remotely likes fantasy genre, READ THESE BOOKS!!! 5.5/5 stars
